Mazen Alsharfan

Chief Internal Auditor

Mazen has extensive experience and knowledge in starting up a newly established Internal Audit department and managing the Internal Audit Function across various business sectors. (i.e., Manufacturing, Investment, Insurance, Semi-government organization, Retail …etc.). He started his career with EY in Business Risk Services and is currently the Internal Audit Director at Nahdi Medical Company. His current position enabled him to widen his exposure, as his responsibilities are not limited to running and managing audits but to carrying out investigations and special projects as part of being the Chairman of the Code Committee, in addition to building an innovative internal audit function as per IIA standards. He holds substantial experience and knowledge of the internal audit transformation process (from the traditional internal audit to world-class risk-based auditing). He is currently the Chairman of the audit committee at King Abdullah Ports (KAP), and a member of the Audit Committee at Emaar the Economic City.

Mazen's principles are to bring the best out of the IA team, quality of the reviews, oblige commitments, and lead by example. Integrity, honesty, confidence, passion for the profession, and effective communication determined his success and extraordinary achievements. Ambitions to enhance expertise and experience to develop the best internal control’s infra-structure with preventive measures and be an ambassador of best-in-class internal audit activities.

Mr. Al-Sharfan holds a Bachelor's degree in Accounting, and a Master's degree in Professional Accounting, and is currently enrolled in MBA (JWMI) at Strayer University in the USA. These qualifications are backed up by a variety of skills in managerial leadership and communication. Management of effective audit committees by thoroughly understanding the roles and responsibilities, relationships with key stakeholders, activities, and challenges were acquired through experience and training. Mazen is a member of the Institute of Internal Auditors (IIA) globally and KSA Chapter and is CIA certified.
